With the stage set and the players in, the show has just got underway in New Delhi. LinuxAsia 2007 has been kicked off in style at the India Habitat Centre in the city. With a lot of ‘Open’ action in store, the three-day event, scheduled from 31 January to 2 February 2007, is where you are going to find the biggest of the names in the industry deliberating on the future course of action for the open source movement.

The theme for this year’s event is innovations in the field of open source to help develop pro-poor technologies and thus bridge the digital divide. And, guess who all are going to storm the sessions — Brian Behlendorf, Apache Foundation; Klaus Knopper, Knoppix Project; Louis Suárez-Potts, OpenOffice.org; Dr Bebo White, Stanford University; Nicholas Negroponte, Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s Media Lab; and Prof C.N. Krishnan, director of AU-KBC, among others.

The first day at LinuxAsia 2007, i.e. the BIG day, is for the big-wigs, keynotes and the vision. The day will see discussions on the ICT challenges that the open source community can solve. The second day, Software Developers’ Day, is dedicated to the latest platforms, frameworks and tools for software developers and database administrators.

The third day will be themed `Manage IT–the OSS Way’. For IT managers and system administrators, who wish to implement IT in their organisations with open source technologies and tools, this is one day of action they can not afford to miss. - EFY Times
